2006 October Feature – Never to late to ride your own.

Mark W Davis
(Reporting)

At 40 plus years old, I thought I never would see my Mom ride a motorcycle much less want her very own. On October 5th, 2006 ... my Mom became the owner of her own Suzuki C50 Tramp. This story began earlier this year with my mother wanting to ride with my Dad and I. So we bought a used Royal Star and added a Voyager kit. They rode together and Mom decided she wanted her very own.

So being “the good son” I began doing research on the various trike manufacturers and configurations. I settled on a handful of manufacturers with one standing out as my preferred choice. So I called Mom on the phone and told her to stop by Cherokee Trikes in Greer, SC the next time they went to Maggie Valley. Little did I know they were taking off that week. (No rest for the weary)

Friday morning came and with it a call from Mom and Dad. They were shopping at Cherokee Trikes. Mom just had to let me know that she found a bike that “fit” her. After a good 20 minutes on the phone, there was no mistaking the fact that she was excited. She asked if I would make the drive to have a look at the bike knowing that I could not turn her down.

So Saturday morning came and I made the three hour drive to Greer, SC. I was greeted by Guy Patterson with a friendly smile and warm greeting. I merely stated that my parents had stopped in yesterday and he knew right away that I was the son of Jim and Jackie.

I spent the next two hours looking at bikes and trikes from all angles. I even crawled around on the floor examining the craftsmanship. Guy escorted me into the shop area and explained how the Lehman trikes were constructed. This was then topped when Guy introduced me to the COO of Lehman Trikes ... Dan Patterson. Guy and Dan answered my questions concerning the configuration and engineering of the Lehman Trikes. I was impressed.

Well ... I called Mom and told her that I was impressed and agreed with her selection. She quickly told me to provide them with a down payment to hold the bike.

The following week Mom and Dad went to pick up the new addition to the Davis fleet of motorcycles. (now over 6 in the garage) They loaded up the trike and brought it home.

Mom spent the rest of the day with a smile on her face as she got use to the new clutch and fuel injected trike. Special thanks to our new friends at Cherokee Trikes and Lehman Trikes for making my Mom happy. The smile on my Mom's face was worth every minute of the trip.

If you are looking for a bike or a trike ... I recommend stopping in and see what Cherokee Trikes and More has to offer.
